We have a wonderful expansive outdoor space with a large covered area providing both shade and shelter. The outdoor area is surrounded by greenery and hedges providing seclusion and security. It holds such favourites as our rustic cubby house, which can be turned from a quiet reading space to a Chinese tea house in an instant, and our gorgeous garden created by the children, which includes a scarecrow, flowers and mosaic pots and hand painted stepping stones creating a pathway to the letterbox. Watering cans are out permanently for the children and we use worm tea from the compost to fertilise our garden. Top of the favourites list has to be the in-ground trampoline, a real boat, a little bus and climbing frame with slide.
This outdoor space has provided a wonderful setting for our children to imagine and play for many years!
Inside, various activities are set out across the large open space, from pirates, to cooking, to multicultural dolls, musical instruments, to a vet surgery and many more, for the children to engage in with their friends and Educators. There is always a socio-dramatic corner, created according to the interests of our children, as well as quiet, cosy spaces, construction areas, puzzles areas, nature spaces and an ‘interest shelf’. To the side is a quiet room, where we gather for morning get togethers, songs, stories and afternoon time. We aim to create a feeling of ‘family’ and ‘home’ within our space.
We maintain well-organised storage areas, including a craft room and equipment room full of excellent activities and games. We pride ourselves in teaching our children to respect our equipment and spaces and they are encouraged to be involved in packing away.
